Rock Carvings and inscriptions at Sehel Island, close to the First Cataract of the River Nile near Aswan


Short boat ride from Aswan takes you to this Nubian village Island overlooking the First Cataract. Island famous for its remarkable inscriptions dating from the Middle Kingdom to Ptolemaic times. Over 250 Inscriptions on weathered granite rock recording Egyptian expeditions. Many carvings are prayers of gratitude to local Gods for safe return from the southern Land of Punt and deepest Africa.
