According to Yoruba tradition, there is a routine of how a king begins his day. The Palace of Ooni provides a good aperture. The king’s praise singer (called Ijala Ooni) arrives early in the morning, accompanied by drummers and flautist and he commences in earnest his duty of rousing the royal father. Presently, the voice of Oloye Omisore Lateef Oyewale Oderinde. He wakes the king. He follows him about in the course of the day, lavishing praises on him. His paen called on people, alerting them to the royal presence, asking them to make way for him.
