A blue poison dart frog or blue poison arrow frog (Dendrobates tinctorius "azureus") inside a terrarium in the Aquarium of Genoa, Livorno, Italy


The Aquarium of Genoa is located in the sixteenth century ancient port of the coastal city. The 2 hours and 30 minutes course includes 39 pools in addition to the 4 open-air pools of the Cetacean Pavilion. The total area of the Aquarium is 27,000 square meters. The tanks are home to about 15,000 animals of 400 different species including fish, marine mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates in environments that reproduce those originating from individual species with obvious educational purposes. The blue poison dart frog or blue poison arrow frog (Dendrobates tinctorius "azureus") is a poison dart frog found in the forests surrounded by the Sipaliwini Savanna, which is located in southern Suriname and adjacent far northern Brazil. D. tinctorius "Azureus" is a medium-sized frog that weighs about 8 g and grows to cm in length.
