Tsuchigumo, Japanese Folklore


Entitled: "Tsuchigumo"; shows a man with a sword about to fend off an attacking "earth spider." Tsuchigumo is a historical Japanese derogatory term for renegade local clans, and also the name for a race of spider-like yokai in Japanese folklore. Woodcut by Yoshitoshi Taiso, circa 1880s.
