Hamal is the brightest star in the constellation of Aries, the Ram. It is magnitude , with a true brightness about 52 times that of the Sun. It is a K2 giant star, which despite its brightness is slightly cooler than the Sun, which accounts for its orange colour. Its distance is 66 light years.
