Lisbon, Portugal. The tomb of explorer Vasco da Gama in the church of Santa Maria in the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos/ Monastery of the Hieronymites. Vasco da Gama - 1524 was amongst the most important Portuguese explorers. He was first buried in Kochi aka Cochim, India, where he died. In 1539 his remains were returned to Portugal and interred in the town of Vidigueira. Finally, in 1880, he was entombed in the Monastery of the Hieronymites. The tomb is the work of sculptors Vitor Bastos and Costa Mota. The monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
