Hidden Valley landscape, Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA (May 2007)

Hidden Valley is a secluded valley in Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave Desert, California. It is surrounded by rocks that block the wind, trap moisture and create a special microclimate that supports many life forms. The plant in the foreground left is Mojave yucca (yucca schidigera) also known as Spanish Dagger. To the right of the yucca and behind it are Parry Nolina (Nolina parryi) plants also known as Giant Nolina or Bear grass. Monzogranite rock formations dominate the background in this photograph.
