Iguana rettile dell'ordine squamata e del sottordine dei sauri ripreso su di un tronco in ambiente tropicale tra foglie verdi. Classico esempio di fauna sudamericana vive prevalentemente sugli alberi da dove scende solo per spostersi, accoppiarsi o deporre uova. E' affine alle lucertole ma molto più grosso e lento. Raggiungono in natura anche i 2,5 metri. Erbivoro, eccellente nuotatore essendo un rettile è incapace di termoregolare la temperatura del proprio corpo per cui al mattino cerca i raggi del sole per poi nascondersi in ombra nelle ore più calde della giornata.
