This small bird is found in western and southern South Africa, from Little Namaqualand to Cape Town and east to Grahamstown. It has undergone rapid population decline as a result of the loss and fragmentation of its habitat due to the conversion of natural vegetation into agricultural land. Due to this habitat destruction, the species is considered vulnerable for its risk of extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature., 1700-1880
