Othniel Charles Marsh (1831-1899), American professor of Paleontology at Yale College and President of the National Academy of Sciences. Marsh, who discovered 80 new species of dinosaurs, competed with fellow paleontologist Edward Drinker Cope from the 1870s to the 1890s in a period of frenzied Western American expeditions known as the "Bone Wars".
