World War II Japanese Internment Camp


Independence, California - The cemetery at the Manzanar Internment Camp, one of 10 camps where Japanese-Americans were held during World War II. The site has been preserved as the Manzanar National Historic Site by the National Park Service. Strings of paper cranes hang from a rope around an obelisk on which the inscription reads: "soul consoling tower."
