Pitcher Viru formative period, 1250 BC - 1 AD Museo de Arte Precolombino, Cusco - Peru In the superior section of this pitcher is the sculpture of an animal gead, most likely a feline. The remaining globular body is decorated with geometric designs in the negative decoration technique. This technique was accomplished by covering selected spaces with fine red acrylic clay that prevented these sections from becoming dark. The remaining sections were left in the open, which would become dark when it was baked.
