Asia Jordan Castle of Qasr al-Azraq in the fortress stayed Lawrence of Arabia
Jordan Castle Qasr al-Azraq stayed in the fortress Lawrence of Arabia. It is one of the desert castles, located near the town of Azraq, about 100 km. from Amman. Its strategic value derived from the nearby oasis, the only source of water in a vast desert region. The name of the fortress and the city came to be associated with this. The ancient Romans were the first to make a military use of this site and its center was later built a mosque. It took its present shape after an extensive renovation and expansion pack from Ayyubids in the thirteenth century, using stone from a local quarry basalt that makes the castle darker than most other buildings in the area. Later, it was used by the armed forces of the Ottoman Empire during the period when it ruled that area (XVII-XX centuries). During the Arab Revolt, Lawrence based his activities here in 1917-18, an experience that he wrote in his book The Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The connection with the figure of Lawrence of Arabia was one of the main interest of the castle for tourists.
