The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 began on July 14 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, after the B&O Railroad cut wages for the third time in a year. It spread to other cities and was ended by federal troops and militia after 52 days. This engraving shows the "Sixth Regiment Fighting its way through Baltimore" on 11 August, 1877.
