Directors of De Beers, 1890. De Beers is a cartel of companies which dominate the diamond industry. The original company was founded in 1888 by Cecil Rhodes, a British businessman. It was financed by South African diamond magnate Alfred Beit, and the London-based Rothschild bank. From left to right are, seated, John Morrogh, Francis Oars, B I Barnato, Charles E Nind and Woolf Joel, and standing, William H Craven, Gardner F Williams and Ludwig Breitmeyer.
