The 1906 caption reads: “The Unveiling of the Garibaldi Statue in 1895. Garibaldi is modern Italy’s great hero of romance. This magnificent statue, recently erected on Mount Janiculum just outside of Rome, commemorates his heroic defense of the city in 1848. Both King Humbert and Queen Margherita assisted at the imposing ceremony here depicted. They are standing with the chief officers of their court in the gorgeous pavilion erected for them.”
