The Indo-Gothic Dromana Gate Lodge at the entrance to Villierstown, a small 18th century estate village in County Waterford, Ireland.

The exotic Indo-Gothic Dromana Gate Lodge stands at the entrance to Villierstown, a small 18th century estate village in County Waterford, Ireland. It was originally constructed by the villagers with papiér maché and canvas-covered timber, to welcome home their landlord, Henry Villiers-Stuart and his new bride however utterly enchanted, the couple decided to build a permanent version. Designed by Irish architect Martin Day in 1843, the entrance lodge on one side of the road bridge over the River Finnisk, has elements of Georgian design, minarets and a copper-clad onion dome, undoubtedly influenced by John Nash's Royal Pavilion in Brighton, England. The bridge appears in "Irish Follies and Whimsical Architecture" by George Munday and published by O'Brien Press in Dublin.
