Cape pangolin (Manis temminckii) curled into a ball. When disturbed, this scaly mammal protects itself by curling up into a ball (as seen here), and raising its sharp scales. It lives in arid sandy areas in parts of eastern and southern Africa, feeding on ants and termites, which it catches using its long sticky tongue. Photographed in the Mala Mala Game Reserve, South Africa.
