The helmet of a British police officer "Bobby". Helmet of historical design in 1863. Before that, the Metropolitan police wore high top hats. The emblem is in the form of a silver eight-pointed star, known in the British tradition as the star of Brunswick. It got its name from the German land of Braunschweig, which was ruled by the Hanoverian dynasty in 1714-1884. The Brunswick star helmet is one of the distinctive features of the Metropolitan Police Service, which has its headquarters in New Scotland Yard.
