Zebra crossing! A Burchell's zebra / Plains zebra (Equus burchellii) crossing a road in the Kruger National Park South Africa. Burchell's zebra is a wild horse is found on the grassy plains of eastern and southern Africa. They live in herds of several hundred individuals, feeding on grass, leaves and shoots. They are a major prey animal for large carnivores such as lions and leopards. Their striped pattern and the fact that they flee predators in a right herd makes it hard for the carnivore to select a target and the confusion can allow zebra to escape.
