Rayon production. Gloved hand touching a strand of rayon as it is produced. This is the manufacturing process for acetate rayon. Liquid viscose is transformed in a chemical bath into cellulose filaments. As the liquid emerges from the spinneret, rayon filaments form, followed by a rayon fibre. This production is at a DuPont factory. The DuPont company licensed the rayon manufacturing process and produced this textile from 1920 to 1960. Photographed in around the 1950s.
