India,Ahmednagar, labourers, has long been an area of famine. Relief work is stonebreaking for roads

India, a group of landless labourers work in a field and break for midday. It is a time of famine and the bare fields they sit in tell their own tale. Ahmednagar has always been a district of famine. Despite now having the maximum number of sugar factories, many of them co-operatively owned, the district is still subject to occasional shortage through famine. Nowadays relief works include stone breaking for construction of roads and bunding where necessary.
