An ugly street in a beautiful town offers a problem that needs resolving. The solution arrived at Art Alley in Rapid City, South Dakota United States of America was to open it up to the underworld of graffiti. Graffiti artists have embraced Art Alley and literally covered it with works ranging from the incredible to the shoddy. The overall impression of visitors to the changed environment is astonishment and general approval. Artworks range from the total abstract to pop art, to photo montage installation art. This was a courageous attempt to improve a dreadful urban environment that has succeeded but needs to be further enhanced and improved. Art Alley is an alley in downtown Rapid City SD, between Main Street and Saint Joseph from 6th to 7th Street.
