Cypriot 5 mils coin from 1955 when Cyprus was controlled by the United Kingdom. The obverse was engraved by Cecil Thomas and features Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse was engraved by William Maving Gardner and features a bronze age figure carrying a copper ingot. One potential inspiration for the engraving is a 12th century BC bronze in the British Museum. Another is in the Royal Ontario Museum. The name Cyprus comes from Kypros, meaning copper.
