The early 1900s caption reads: "CAPTURE OF THE JACOBITE LEADERS IN " THE FIFTEEN."—The exiled Stuart kings of England several times endeavored to regain their throne. Their supporters were called Jacobites, from Jacobus, the Latin form of King James' name. One of the most serious of the venal rebellions was in 1715, hence called "The Fifteen." John, Earl of Mar, roused the Scotch Jacobites; but they were betrayed and their leaders were seized in an inn [seen here], where they had gathered. Mar escaped to France, but most of his supporters were either executed or transported for life. "
