Venetia Diamond Mine, Limpopo Province, South Africa. This open-pit mine is South Africa's largest producer of diamonds. It belongs to De Beers, the cartel of companies which dominates the diamond industry. The mine was opened in 1992. In 2013, De Beers began constructing a new underground mine under the open-pit to extend the life of Venetia beyond 2040.
