Go Local - the UK’s biggest ever celebration of volunteering and first Olympic and Paralympic legacy event at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. One year on from London 2012, Go Local is the first legacy event to be held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Go Local is hosted by Join In and Team London, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and by Presenting Partner BT. Go Local will provide people inspired by London 2012 with ideas and practical advice on how to fuel their interest in volunteering and make a real impact in their local community. The event is a curtain raiser to a summer of activities where Join In will play matchmaker to local sports clubs, community groups and potential volunteers by offering them opportunities to do something great in their local community. Team London makes it quick and easy for Londoners to give their time, find volunteering opportunities, and do great things for their city. The London 2012 volunteers have had a lasting impact on volunteering in the UK but that was only the start. Almost a third of the population (32%) said the London 2012 volunteers positively changed the way they view volunteering, with 31% saying that, looking back they would liked to have been a London 2012 volunteer themselves. Go Local kicks off a summer of activity that will revitalise the volunteering legacy of London 2012. Image taken by Simon Webster on 19th July 2013
