At day-break I advanced towards thefouth-weft. Among many Other vegetable pro-dudions, I difcovered at^the bafe of the moun-tains, in a marly foil, a leguminous plant, whichoueht to be ranked amone; thofe the corolla ofwhich is papilionaceous, and the filaments of theirfiiamina fcparate from each other. It forms a new genus, which I call cliorizema. The calix is in one piece, and di\ided intofour parts on its borders. The upper divifion islarge, hollowed, and longer than the rcll. The three. The iupcrior border of the vexillum is hollow-ed, and almoft entirely covers the alas of thecarina. The ftamina, which are fix in number, are allfeparatcd from one another. The ovarium is oval, elongated, and terminatedby a recurvated Hyle. The pod is oval, and filled with a great numberof black and almoft fpherical feeds. This plant is perennial, and its leaves are iimple,alternate, feffile, coriaceous, long, dentated, andhave two little fpines for ftipulce.
