Perkins Island Lighthouse, located on the southwest tip of Perkins Island in the Kennebec River in Maine, was established in 1898.


Perkins Island Lighthouse, located on the southwest tip of Perkins Island in the Kennebec River in Maine, was established in 1898. This lighthouse was part of a project to provide adequate navigation lights, aids, etc., on the Kennebec River which was a very important waterway at the time. Other lighthouses built at the same time included the Doubling Point Light, Squirrel Point Light, the Kennebec River Range Lights and various fog horns and bells. The lighthouse was automated in 1959 and remains an active aid to navigation.
