Kiniero, Guinea, 30th April 2015: This village and the surrounding area will be flooded by the Fomi Dam. Village elder Ibrahima Condé, 77, blind and in a chair, is married with one wife. He has 8 children, and is the Sotikèmon (chief of village) of Kiniéro village. His elder brother, Moriba Condé, is 82 years old, married to 3 wives, and has 27 children. In discussions about the implications of the Fomi dam, they explained that they’re ready to leave when the dam construction starts, but they’re worrying because they do not feel fully informed. They did not know that the dam lake would cover 502 km2, and are unaware of where the edge of this lake will be, where the village they will be displaced to will be, and what their living conditions will be like.
