Here is portrayed the worship of Baal Hammon—said that some Baal followers practiced child sacrifice and some human sacrifice.

Baal, in the ancient Middle East, was a title meaning "lord" or "ruler" and used for various deities whom people in some of the cities there worshiped. Baal was particularly worshiped in the Phoenician city of Carthage, in northern Africa (present-day Tunisia). This illustration, dating to 1916, portrays the worship of Baal. It was said that some followers of Baal practiced child sacrifice and some human sacrifice, as shown here—the figures at middle left.
