Ancient rock engravings of Kalbak-Tash archaeological site and the Chuya River. The Altai Mountains, Siberia, Russia


The Kalbak-Tash archaeological site is situated in the basin of the Chuya River, the Altai Mountains. There are about 5,000 rock engravings. During many thousands years this place was a sanctuary for nomad tribes of different cultures lived in the Altai Mountains from the Bronze Age until the Middle Age. This archaeological site was discovered by Russian artist Grigory Tchoros-Gurkin in 1912.
