Alfalfa pollination. Close-up of an Alfalfa leafcutter bee (Megachile rotundata) on an alfalfa (Medicago sativa) flower. Alfalfa leafcutter bees are a European species of bee that have been cultured in North America for pollination purposes, but have also become feral and widespread. They are a solitary species and do not build colonies or store honey, but are a very efficient pollinator of alfalfa seed, carrot seed, and some other vegetables.
