1915/16. A detachment of the Royal Engineers Special Companies formed to conduct offensive gas operations against the Germans. Volunteers with knowledge of chemistry were called for from all units. Second from left rear row is Robert Dawson who had graduated MA (including chemistry) in 1914 and had mobilised with U Company.
