AWAKE BRAIN SURGERY
Reportage on the removal of a cerebral tumor (glioma) while awake at Nice Hospital, France. Awake surgery consists of waking the patient during the operation in order to precisely locate, using electrical stimulation, crucial areas for vital functions (language, motor function etc.), with the aim of preserving them during the ablation of the tumor. Sterile cotton swabs protect the brain during the operation, and surgical for haemostasis.
