South Korean freshmen at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul wear traditional Confucian school uniforms as they participate in the Myeonsinrye event, a traditional annual event to welcome new students. Sungkyunkwan University was established in 1398 during the early Joseon Dynasty as the best national educational institution. Old Sungkyunkwan was founded by royal decree to promote Confucian education.
