Essigbauai, Ger. Sumach, Fr. R. aromatica. D. A native variety, exhaling" a strong- odor. Flowers g-reenish-white ; leaves lobed. 35c. R. Cotinus. Purple-Fringe, or Smoke Tree. C. From the South of Europe. A much admired shrub for its curious fringe, or hair-like flowers, that cover the whole surface of the plant in mid-summer. It g-rows 10 to 12 feet hig-h, and spreads so as to require considerable space. 50c. K. glabra var. laciniata. CUT-L,EAVED SU- MACH. C. A very striking plant, of moderate size, with deeply cut leaves resembling- fern leaves; dark green above and glaucous beloAv, and turning to a rich red in autumn. See cut. 75c. R. Osbeckii. C.
