An Uzbek tractor driver collects the scraps of cotton at the end of the workday in Kiruv, near Tursunzoda, western Tajikistan. Much of Central Asia was engineered towards cotton monoculture, with extensive irrigation creating grave environmental consequences such as the disappearance of the Aral Sea.
