With the advent of the motor vehicle, however, road con-ditions in Napa County, as in other parts of California,changed, and the highways which had stood up well andgiven good service under deliberate horse-drawn trafficground up and blew away under the swift movement, heavy-load, and hind-wheel thrust of motor truck or automobile. The burden imposed upon the roads of Napa County, itmay be said, is of twofold character, this region being one ofthe most popular sections of California from a touring stand-point as well as highly productive agriculturally, prunes of [186].
