Well preserved slipper baths within Moseley Road Swimming Baths, Balsall Heath, Birmingham, UK

Completed in 1908 as an addition to the already built library that served the community of Balsall Heath, Moseley Road Swimming and Slipper Baths are now in server danger of falling further into disrepair. Once used as a makeshift hospital and mortuary during World War II and managed by Birmingham City Council the Grade II listed building has fallen into major disrepair and consequently closed its first class and also known as the Gala pool back in 2003. Pool 2 is in use after extensive work carried out and a Heritage Lottery Fund grant helping to foot the bill. An active community action group formed in 2006 (Friends of Moseley Road Baths) is on hand to try to save the main pool. The Slipper Baths, also closed are on the ground floor are well preserved along with the Drying Room on the top floor, believed to be one of only two of its kind left in the country. There are two 1950’s coal fired boilers still in operational use in the basement along with two water filtration units. Moseley Road Baths are a part of the dwindling British heritage and a real treasure that should be saved for future generations to enjoy.
