Oseltamivir - Trade Name Tamiflu - An antiviral to prevent or slow the spread of influenza A and influenza B

Oseltamivir, marketed under the trade name Tamiflu, is an antiviral licensed to prevent or slow the spread of influenza A and influenza B (flu) virus between cells in the body by stopping the virus from chemically cutting ties with its host cell. Randomized clinical trials have failed to find a benefit of treatment among people seeking care for flu-like symptoms. Among those at high risk for complications, as well as the elderly, treatment does not appear to be a change in the risk of hospitalization and it is unclear if it affects rates of death. The United States Centers for Disease Control continues to recommend the use of oseltamavir treatment for people at high risk for complications and the elderly and those at lower risk who present within 48 hours of first symptoms of infection.
