A black and white portrait of the film star Shirley Temple pictured in Los Angeles in 1936. She is smiling at the camera and holding a rabbit in a basket. Shirley Temple was a US actress born in 1928. She was the most successful child star of the 1930s. Her films include Bright Eyes 1934 (Academy Award), in which she sang 'On the Good Ship Lollipop', Curly Top 1935, and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm 1938. Her film career virtually ended by the time she reached adolescence. As Shirley Temple Black, she became active in the Republican Party; she was a delegate to the United Nations 1969-70 and was US chief of protocol 1976-77. She was appointed US ambassador to Czechoslovakia 1989.
