RAF Donna Nook with Seals at birthing time on the Lincolnshire Coast UK

Donna Nook on the Lincolnshire coast is home to one of the largest breeding colonies of Grey Seals. The seals give birth to their pups between late October and December each year. After giving birth the cow seal feeds up her pup on her highly nutritious milk for about two weeks. She then leaves the pup to fend for itself and mates with waiting bulls before returning to the sea. The pups remain on the beach until they have lost their white fur and have their waterproof coats. They then enter the sea to start feeding having had no food since their mother left them.
