Desert Spoon aka Common or Blue Sotol, Dasylirion wheeleri Ruscaceae. Has previously been classified in Dracaenaceae, Liliaceae and Agavaceae. It is a flowering plant native to arid environments of the southwestern United States in Arizona, western Texas, New Mexico and in northern Mexico in Chihuahua and Sonora. The drink sotol is made from the Desert Spoon, which was also used by the natives of the region for food and fiber.
