Cross slit arrow loops in the fortified Barbican gatehouse of Lewes Castle, Lewes, East Sussex, UK


Battlements in the fortified gatehouse of Lewes Castle in Lewes East Sussex. The gatehouse was built in the 14th Century in front of the original Norman gatehouse. The cross slit arrow loops could be used by archers to fire arrows through to defend the castle entrance. The castle is open to visitors.
