An old engraving of a man raking ore at a framing table in order to separate mineral-bearing material from waste in the mining industry. It is from a Victorian mechanical engineering book of the 1880s. Processing of ore from a mine requires the rock to be crushed before extraction of the valuable minerals can begin. Here, crushed rock mixed with water, is sluiced down the table. The heavier ore containing the minerals remains at the top of the table while the lighter and finer waste material is sluiced further down the table and falls through the gaps to be collected below.
