1765 image of the Swedish ship S V Vigilantia ( "Vigilantia" is Latin for alertness, wakefulness or watchfulness. She was bound for Hamburg from Lisbon with a cargo of salt, tobacco, sugar and lemons when it was was wrecked west of Porthleven on the 21st November 1738 with the loss of the captain, 3 crew and its cargo. Five persons on board ship was 'stripped bare' of valuables before the customs officers arrived.
