Raw, uncooked cockles that have been gathered by a forager at low tide by hand. The cockles appear to match the description for the Rough Cockle, Acanthocardia tuberculata, although the rough cockle is very similar in appearance to both the spiny and prickly cockle. The spiny and prickly cockle are said to be sub-littoral while the rough cockle can be found in the littoral zone which is where these were gathered, suggesting that the identification is correct. However, this conclusion should be treated with caution. They are very tough when cooked. Dorset England UK GB
