Juvenile Swallow Tailed Gull Genovesa, Galapagos, Ecuador

The Swallow Tailed Gull is unique in that it is the only nocturnal gull in the world. It is pelagic except for the breeding season when it nests in small colonies in Galapagos. During the breeding season the birds are distinctive by the red rings around their eyes.
