Found in Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and Brazil in cloud forests in the upper tree canopy at elevations of 1100 to 1600 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing, epiphyte. Stelis, or leach orchids, is a large genus of orchids, with perhaps 500 species. The generic name Stelis is the Greek word for 'mistletoe', referring to the epiphytic habit of these species. The name drosophila means dew loving and comes from the Greek words drósos meaning dew and philía meaning lover.
